About

EMVYA was founded in 2017 by two sisters and is built on foundations of family, history, craftsmanship and longevity. In the pursuit of discovering something different and inspired by landscapes and global travels, EMVYA was born. Following a trip to the Himalayas, EMVYA launched with a curated edit of handmade luxury cashmere throws and scarves. This year, EMVYA has expanded the homeware range by adding colourful handmade Ikat cushions from Turkey. EMVYA looks to source and curate a combination of artesian pieces from various corners of the Globe.

About our Throws & Scarves:

EMVYA’s throws and a selection of our scarves are designed in London and handmade in Nepal. Using traditional craftsmanship, found in the remote regions of the Himalayas and passed down through generations, the process begins with the sorting of the cashmere and wool fibres from the ultra-soft Changra mountain goat. This is dyed with eco-friendly Swiss colouring agents then spun into yarns and woven in handlooms before production. To finish, and further optimise the softness of the cashmere, pieces are washed and left to dry in the Nepalese sunshine before being ironed and shared with love. The throws take three months to produce. This cashmere wool handcraft is one of the many rare skills and family-preserved traditions found in Nepal and is passed down through generations to provide a supportable and fair income. It is our aim and main interest to preserve the techniques of the master weavers and encourage sustainable cashmere production. We are proud to consistently partner with a wonderful small family-run business for this sole purpose.

EMVYA has expanded the collection by partnering with artisans in Mongolia to produce further meticulously sourced 100% cashmere scarves, built on the values of quality, not quantity. Our designs from Nepal and Mongolia come in a selection of warm and contemporary hues to compliment heavier knitwear and oversized coats.

About our Cushions:

In 2020, EMVYA discovered the colourful Ikat technique and partnered with an established Turkish family business. Also built on the same foundations of craftsmanship and design to produce an edit of Ikat cushion covers. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs resist dyeing. The resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping, applied in the desired position. The yarns are then dyed and the process is often repeated in a variety of distinct and vibrant colours before being woven on the handloom to produce the fabric.

Ikat is one of the most historically ancient forms of textile used across the globe. It is a process which requires great care and attention to detail and this is reflected in the various styles.
